Gorgon
|
The Gorgones were created to be subservient, willing slaves by their progenitors but the Atalantes found far more than they bargained for in the barbaric melding of snake and human form. Too intelligent to be menials, too forthright to be mere servants, the Gorgones became slave-warriors, a calling that suited their calculating minds and vicious temperaments and, indeed, the increasing decadence of the Atalantes themselves. As Atalantia began to crumble so they relied more upon the Gorgones, forgetting their origins and allowing the snake-men power undreamt of in their long history. Yet power itself was not the reason the Gorgon Ophios rose against his former masters; it was the cruelty and depravity his kin endured despite their sacrifices and the broken promises of the humans that drove him to murder, that planted the seeds of hate in his heart, and he and those that now follow him will have their vengeance even if it leads to their oblivion.
