Uí Néill
|
The Uí Néill, descended from Niall Noígiallach himself, are led by their Ard Rí, Conall Cóel, the High King who rules from the Hill of Tara itself. The Uí Néill bear the brunt of the incursions of the Fomoraic and have lost much of their territory to the Great Ice Sheet, and as a result they are the most warlike of all the Irish clans as well as the one most devoted to the earth goddess, Danu. Conall Cóel himself offers her his blade, even though he has faith in God: and he sees it as his destiny to bring all of the Érainn to the earth goddess' warm embrace as well as instruct them to continue to follow much of the teachings of Saint Patrick. The other provinces of Eriu, especially those of the south, are not convinced, even though they, too, suffer: but Conall Cóel will not be swayed until the Fomoraic are defeated.
