Two Mailing Lists

Two Mailing Lists

Rob Lane

As some of you may have noticed by now, there's been some shenanigans with our mailing lists over the last week or two - namely, we've now got two of them; one for sales, one for anything else. Hear me out...

Sale Mail (not scale mail)

Our main mailing list (powered by emailoctopus; changed from mailchimp as they're a damn sight cheaper) has been used over the past few years for sales, mainly; and I know a lot of you get fed up with the sheer amount of them - and that's fair enough. We do send other mails about things, but they tend to get lost in the noise, and if you've unsubscribed, you don't get those anyway.

So I'd been musing on the latter; how to give you information about Mierce, including things like new releases, Penda's Blog and notices about whatever else is going on, without you getting browned off?

Enter the new webstore, and an e-mail app called Seguno!

Store Mail vs Sale Mail

This app allows me to send various different e-mails, not the least of which is a notification of a blog post, to everyone that has subscribed to the new webstore's mailing list. This got me thinking - why not have two mailing lists? One for sales, and one for everything else?

Why not indeed!

So let's do it - I'll keep on using emailoctopus for sale mails (and I do urge you to subscribe to that, or keep your subscription, as some of our offers really are amazing), but from now on the store mail will concern itself with blog posts (both Penda's Blog and this one, the Mierce News blog), general notifications about the webstore or Mierce Miniatures and, indeed, any information that's not to do with a sale of some kind.

So - get yourself subscribed to the webstore's mailing list (you should have seen a popup by now asking you to do just that) and the promise from me personally is that I won't use it for sale mails.

(Note that you will receive a note about whatever's in the blog posts, so if I do mention the sales in a blog, you will see that - but only that once. So you'll keep your head in the loop on sales too, without getting spammed.)

Now, in a bid to get people signed up to the store's mailing list, if you sign up you will receive a ‘Welcome’ e-mail automation powered by Blood-Maw that gives you a code to get £5 off your next order over £50. Just a little tidbit from me to you!

Automations and Popups

A feature of shopify in general, and especially Seguno, is that I can do some very cool automations with e-mails and popups. For now I've just included the Welcome e-mail when you sign up to the mailing list, a ‘You left your basket behind’ e-mail where Penda almost threatens you to carry on, a ‘Cheers’ e-mail to say thank you for your first purchase, and a lapsed purchaser where you've not had your Grey Wulf fix after ninety days.

There's just the one popup for now - and it should only popup once; let me know if it keeps bothering you - which asks you to join the mailing list; and while I'll try not to use it a lot as these things can get quite spammy, I may do so for important messages. I can't think of any messages important enough for that right now, but ho hum. Again, if it gets too spammy for you, just contact me and I'll have a muse.

That's all for now - watch out for an announcement on Vallejo and other hobby stuff shortly...
