The demilegionarii are the half-demon, half-human infantry of both Byzantia and Infernus, standing from six to ten feet tall, armed with fired axes and tempered swords; their armour and skin slowly fusing, their horns growing and their knowledge maturing, they fight to destroy the enemies of mankind and their creators.
Changed irrevocably by their pilgrimage to the Gate of Infernus and beyond, enlightened by the wisdom of the ancient lords of that blackened land-under-land, each demilegionarius wends slowly from man to demon over time. This can take hundreds of years; in some just a few, perhaps dependant upon the spirit of the warrior; warlike and malevolent spirits change much faster than more even-tempered ones. Once begun, once such understanding is made, this process cannot be ended, except in death; but as their skin hardens, their armour fuses to bone and their animus is fired, demilegionarii grow and toughen, becoming harder and harder to kill, until they become demifiends, half-fiends, more demon than human, and then fiends, and then, ultimately, champions of Dis.
