The foremost commoner nobles amongst the Cymry - the Uchelwyr - consider themselves born leaders whether that is true or not. Some Uchelwyr prove that belief: or so people say when they talk of Carys. A child of Arfon, between the hills that brood upon Môn and the Afon Menai, she was the first of Gwynedd's nobles to swear fealty to Cadwaladr, to his aims and his convictions, and she in turn enjoys his confidence more than any other. Masterly with sword and bow, Carys is at the forefront of any battle with her warriors, her Teulueodd and her Rhyfelwyr; yet she is also a skilled hunter, as adept at raiding enemy encampments as she is tracking their movements. She is, ultimately, indispensable to the fortunes of the Brythoniaid.
