Spawn of Gorgoneion

Spawn of Gorgoneion

Rob Lane

The anniversary of our new digital era is upon us my friends - and what a year it's been! From Atalantes to Khthones, Jutes to Brythoniaid, Fomoraic to Albainn, Anglecynn to Norse, it's been an amazing year of releases. So much so, it feels like many of you can't keep up! Well, battle host releases wait for no mere human, so unless you're from the Gorgoneion system you'd better get your second wind...

Another wonderful battle host and beast release this November sees the Khthones enter the fray with the many-limbed and many-eyed star-demons of Ho Lamprós, the stony-gazed ones that can be absolutely terrifying upon the battlefield, and not least because of their incredible ability to regenerate the deadliest of wounds. One thing's for sure - with Pétroyos the warlord, the Voidspawn unit of lískar and the Starspawn unit of lískrothar on the battlefield, you might not even need the baleful eyes of the titanovasilísk, Asterómma... but pay your silver anyway because by gum he's worth it!

Physical Miniatures In Stock

Like all of our releases now, the miniatures from the Spawn of Gorgoneion battle host and Asterómma are in stock and ready to ship!

Limited Edition Battle Host

You can purchase the miniatures within each unit singly, as units or as the battle host itself - and while these physical hosts give you a great discount, typically around half the price of purchasing the miniatures within individually, they will be strictly limited edition each month to ten sets only. So get them now if you want them!

Monster Scenic Base

The scenic base of the monthly monster will be at the monster's normal price until the end of the month, after which time you're then paying for the base too. Grab it while you can!

50/25% off until Monday the 9th of November

Head over to the New Releases page to grab this month's host as physical products, and remember - for the first week of so of a battle host release, the individual miniatures are set at 50% off (for resin miniatures like Asterómma) and 25% off for Grey Wulf resin miniatures (all the battle host). That means if you just want a couple of these awesome new warriors or units, rather than all of them, you still get a nice little discount.

Spawn of Gorgoneion

Aliens to this world, star-spawned beings from the Bright One in the Gorgon's Mouth, the lískar were brought by the Atalantes for their own reasons, reasons lost in time, for they are now mortal enemies. Some say the kolossi of bronze were built to stand against the evil gaze of these creatures, as they do not turn to stone under their eyes; only the living, or at least those with souls, suffer that way; but in truth their evil gaze is just one aspect of their sheer otherness. Able to regenerate the deadliest of wounds, with skin as hard as iron and hearts even harder, the lískar are implacable enemies. Thankfully for the Atalantes - and for the rest of the lands of darkness - these beings are rare and secretive, seemingly content to live their lives upon their island, Lís, from where few others return; and yet they aid the Khthones when they are in dire need, venturing out to destroy all those they deem as other.

This month's battle host, sculpted brilliantly by Rafael Callegari as always, from the artwork by Tommasso Luchetti, contains:

  • Pétroyos, Lískarchon
  • Ariadne, Pétroyos' Victim [Pin Up]*
  • Ariadne, Pétroyos' Petrified Victim [Pin Up]*
  • Voidspawn, Lískar Unit (5x warriors w cmd)
  • Starspawn, Lískrothar Unit (3x warriors w cmd)

*The pin up loyalty rewards are only available if you subscribe through our webstore

Pétroyos has been available for a while now as a traditional sculpt, but we knew we'd have to resculpt him eventually. Rafael has done a great job and his weapons now match the lískar better than before! Armed to the teeth like all of them, with thick scaly skin and that terrible gaze, this particular lískarchon is definitely the warlord you need to lead the Voidspawn...

...which truly are a superb collection of reptilian nasties. With stone-blade clubs and spears, and again with those four deathly eyes, the lískar are incredibly powerful on the battlefield. The khthones are already blessed with monstrous infantry, but these guys are probably the nastiest of the lot!

The Starspawn, the lískrothar, are on a whole different level. Centaur-like beings with six legs and four arms, still with those devastating eyes, these creatures are not only implacable, they are swift. When they charge into battle, your foes will feel them!

Who Are the Khthones?

For thousands of years the Khthones suffered cruel slavery, years of pain and mutilation and barbarity, until their endurance was finally exhausted and the chains that bound them could be borne no more.

For the Khthones, ‘those of the earth’, are the once-slaves of Atalantia, a race of reptiles and amphibians created by the Atalantes from the natural creatures around their islands and elsewhere to replace their ageing kolossi - reptiles who now wish to destroy their creators and found their own kingdom, either upon the southern islands of Atalantia or upon the rich lands to the south and east, lands they take by force.

Led by the gorgon known as Ophios, the Khthones turned on their progenitors and slaughtered them, rousing krokodar, gorgonar, sávrar, hydrar and many others - including the beasts they were created from - to unite and win freedom; yet the struggle to break free from Atalantia is not so simple, for the Atalantes are warriors still and many of the unawakened, unenlightened Khthones still serve their masters dutifully.

It is for this reason that many Khthones have turned from Ophios. Preferring to conquer the kingdoms of man than fight against their own kind (although some simply refuse to serve another in the manner they had done before), these Khthones either capture the ships of men to bear them across the seas or swim alongside until land is met; and whilst some of their settlements have endured, others do not have warriors with enough discipline to survive and are deserted, their inhabitants drifting back to Khthon or dying amongst the incomprehensible realms of men.

Líska

Of all the Khthones the terrible monsters of Lís are the strangest and the most dangerous, for one glance into their many eyes is enough to become as petrified as the very rocks themselves. Such is their terrifying, unknowable power that few visit the island of Lís and live, even other Khthones: still fewer speak with the lísk-lords or the Great Lísk himself to beg for the aid of their unique abilities. Only the sávrar seem to be able to bear close proximity to the lískar; perhaps because they themselves lend aid to the spawn of the Bright One.

Shaped by their captivity and the brutality of their captors, knowing their roots and their capabilites, the lískar are highly intelligent beings who quickly realised they were little more than slaves and murderers: and they were amongst the first to turn from the hosts of men, for little could be done to combat the will of such awful creatures.

You can learn more about the Khthones on the Mierce Miniatures webstore and in the Lands of Darkness kindred guide!

How Does the Digital Subscription Work?
