The foul experimentations upon wolf and hound by the flesh-drunes of Ys produce horrors uncounting. Mostly the results of their freakish designs succumb to the cruelty inflicted upon them in the process of their making. Mostly, however, is not all; and those that survive, at least those with a semblance of function and form that is useful to the hosts of Kernunnos, become hound-aberrants and thus taken to the beast-cages of the goad-drunes where they are brutalised even further and starved until the rabid fury within them grows to a loathing of all things. Only then - when they are driven mad with hunger - are the hound-aberrants trained to focus their frenzy and unleash their terrifying anger and malice upon the enemies of Ker-Ys, enemies that often have no defence against their snapping teeth and vicious claws.
