Retired

Retired

Rob Lane

In an unusual bout of brevity, this week I speak only of retiring miniatures, studio paintjobs and Ysians...

Retiring Miniatures

Being a natural hoarder (only a few years away from making tunnels through old newspapers to get to my kitchen), I don't really like doing things like ‘streamlining’ or ‘optimising’; but the time has come when even I, Mr Don't-Get-Rid-Of-Stuff, have to bow to the weight of... well, stuff. (You should see my attic.)

Over the years we've made somewhere around 1,200 unique miniatures, give or take a couple of hundred, and it's time to reduce that down to a more manageable number. Our shelves are full of moulds and bins of miniature parts, so I'm going to be ruthless here; I'm going to streamline the Darklands range a fair amount, removing miniatures that have been resculpted digitally or those that are a little superfluous (especially in light of the forthcoming Darklands 3rd edition), and probably remove most of the BaneLegions range over the course of the next couple of months.

We've resculpted a fair few miniatures from the original traditional sculpt into digital, and while I'm not aiming to remove all of our cast resin miniatures, I'll be removing those that have been resculpted that don't make sense any more. Hence the removal of Angrislaug, that beauty of a dragon that Roberto Chaudon sculpted, last week; we have Lludial and Adannwg now, so it's time to say a fond farewell to Angry the Slag.

Angrislaug, Draiggoch of Eryri

To give you all a chance to grab some of these miniatures for the last ever time, we'll be retiring around 20 miniatures per week (plus any painted versions) for the foreseeable future; so if you want them, grab them while you can on our retiring miniatures page. We're also giving you lucky Miercenaries one last chance to grab some retired miniatures of long ago, should you want them before they disappear.

Studio Painted Miniatures for Sale

As well as that, if we're removing the miniatures completely, why not offer you all the chance to grab the original studio painted miniatures of them? After all, we wouldn't be taking them to shows any longer; and it seems a shame to have them sat in a box staring at peanut foam in the vain hope they'll see the crowds at Salute again. So head over to our eBay seller page and have a bid to own a piece of Mierce history!

Depravity and Mutation Ahead

In a further change to the published host schedule, next month I've decided we're going to do Ysians!

The new shadow-drunes, including a female with clothes on! Amazing.

April will see resculpted shadow-drunes and the long-awaited rogue-drunes, effectively shadow-drunes with bows; as well as a shadow-drune commander / pin-up and resculpted Brugg and brutes. The brutes were amongst our earliest ever miniatures, so again, it's sad to see them go - but it's time, to be honest!

So here's the full list of April's host:

  • Arwec of Carn Dhu, Shadow-Master
  • Arwec of Carn Dhu, Shadow-Master [Pin Up]
  • Hammer-Brugg, Death-Brute
  • Blade-Grigg, Death-Brute
  • Shadows of Carn Bran, Shadow-Drune Unit (5x warriors)
  • Rogues of Carn Bran, Rogue-Drune Unit (5x warriors)
  • Brutes of Brugg, Great Club Brute Unit (5x warriors)
  • Brutes of Grigg, Two Club Brute Unit (5x warriors)

That's a bumper crop for April, methinks!

Until next time, keep it Mierce!
