Brunchaath's Herd

The ice-bound wastes beyond Toraigh where men dare not go and little else survives lie the tribes of the gabrax, foul beast-things in thrall to Baalor, the Eye in the Ice, the Destroyer of the North, the true power outside the mainlands. Raiders, despoilers, marauders all, the gabrax are the ruination of the world, parodies of beast and man, an insult to the natural world and a connection to the world beyond the shadows.

Their rudimentary tribal society is one of power, greed and blood, where the strongest survive and the weakest simply prey, and it is fitting that those ruling the tribes of the gabrax, the dains, are amongst the strongest of them all. Brunchaath the Vile is one such, a hugely muscled hulk of goat and man, a horned devil with white fur and black armour that proudly bears the mark of Baalor. His evil reputation as a killer of killers, an indiscriminate slaughterer of babe and child, man and woman, ensures that those in his path flee rather than stand against him and be sacrificed upon the tundra in Baalor's name.

Great Cleaver Brunchaath the Vile, Gabrax Dain on Hoof

In the world of the gabrax, strength begets strength. The commander of the host is Brunchaath the Vile, and his prowess is so great that his herd grows, moon by moon, sun by sun, and one foul night he is sure his goat-men and sheep-men will conquer the others, the lesser herds, perhaps even Chaagmuth's. Until then, he is content to slaughter.

Herdspear Brunchaath the Vile, Gabrax Dain

Brunchaath is provided in three versions - great cleaver, herdspear (throwing spears) and herdax (throwing axes), and he also has two head variants, helmed or unhelmed.

Herdax Brunchaath the Vile, Gabrax Dain

More sheep than goat, the gabrax of Baagath's Herd are still ferocious and deadly, especially with great cleavers and their natural instinct to head-butt an enemy when charging. Armoured in mail and rudimentary plate, there's seven in the unit including banner bearer and hornblower. Due to the shape of their mouths, the horn is blown a bit differently from those of the humans!

The slan-gabrax are a little less ferocious and prefer to throw herdspears at the enemy instead of getting up close. Even so, Baamath's Herd can still get in the fight when required!

Baamath's Herd, Herdspear Slan-Gabrax Unit (5x warriors w cmd)

Some slan-gabrax prefer to throw axes rather than spears, and Baabath's Herd will do just that for your beastman host!

The gabrox are the much larger cousins of the gabrax. Ferocious and deadly, hard to kill, Graach's Herd is armed with great cleavers, massive horns and cloven hooves. These guys pack a powerful punch for Brunchaath, fully able to take on larger monstrous infantry as long as they get the charge in! Standing on 50mm bases, they're around 50-60mm tall.

Who Are the Fomoraic?

The Fomoraic represent the evil Fomorians, the devils from the sea bent on conquering the lands above the water at any cost. Well-known from Irish legend, the Fomorians are implacable enemies of the Érainn and, indeed, the land itself: for the decaying world under the waves is under threat from disease, inbreeding and a declining birth-rate none can understand, which means the Fomoraic need more and more captives, more humans to impregnate if they are to survive - and the only way they can do so is to subjugate the lands above the water and those that live there.

Few amongst the fíorfomor, the true Fomorians, can survive for long without the cold of the deeps surrounding them, so many of them have developed ways to subvert the land-locked creatures above and turn the weak-willed to their ends. This is why the Fomor can bring goat-men, bull-men, rhino-men and mammoth-men to fight alongside them, and why those that desire power most - humans - can forget their kin and fight for those that threaten their very existence; although some of the older fíorfomor eschew such creatures and simply raid the lands themselves, returning to the sea when they have taken what they need.

The Cursed Herd are but one of many herds of beast-men within the heart-woods and the dark-vales and the deep-caves, but in time they will conquer the world, so goes the reckoning, for their numbers - despite the waste in lives through their rampaging and despoiling and infighting - seem without end: a true horde of hoof and horn, an unceasing bestial tide of blood and slaughter driven by a thirst to conquer that is unquenchable. For lesser herds are drawn to the Cursed Herd all the more as its dark renown grows: the promise of meat and battle and infamy is a potent one, as is the instinctive knowledge that the lands of the humans are there for the taking, especially with the power wielded by the cursed ones, for it is given by Baalor himself.

June's Files...

As mentioned on the last Penda's Blog, I'm actively working on sorting out the delays in getting the hosts to you; next month will see either the Anglecynn ḡeoguth and wereofor or the Albainn oghur and moroghur, whichever is finished by the sculptors first; and then we should be able to bring you the hosts on time each month. Got to get ahead!
