I dunno. You wait around for ages for an update on here, and two come along at once - it's like waiting for a number ten bus into town! So here's another load of releases for Darklands - thirty-four, in fact - with new hosts, new nobles, new infantry and new sell-swords in the mix!
For the Albainn there's two new sorcerers, the amazing Gnith and the odd Ogmops; the Atalantes gain their first host - the Oplites - and a new noble, Nikandros; for the Brythoniaid there's a new noble, the lovely Nerys, and an update for the Rhyfelwr thanks to new photos; the Byzantii get themselves a new warchief, Quintus Crito, and a unit of superb Demilegionarii along with a host for them; and last, but definitely not least, the Jutes gain more skellybobs with the awesome Wihtax and Wihtboga units. They are definitely the highlight of this month's releases!

Again, thanks to us being busier than busy bees we've just not had the time to get the release art and descriptions done; but you can still see some good images of each miniature on the website of course.

The fantastic Gnith, a Morsagart or high sorcerer, was sculpted amazingly by Valentin Zak from the artwork by Sam Lamont. He's a big lad, rumoured to be part Oghurithne, which explains why he's so good at using Oghu invocations!
|
Ogmops is another sorcerer of the Albainn and another amazing sculpt, this time by Yannick Fusier from the artwork by Sam Lamont. Looking like a blind tramp divining for dropped chips is probably part of the job description, but that doesn't stop your Channeller being a fantastic exponent at porridge gobbler magic!

The Atalantes gain their first Infantry Starter Host this month, and not before time! Led by Thera, this host gives you a unit of ten steadfast Oplites with spears and shields and a unit of five powerful Mesokolossos with spears and shields, implacable monstrous infantry of bronze. Sculpted by Jin Wei (Thera and the Oplitoi) and Duncan Louca (the Mesokolossi) from the artwork by Dan Warren.
|
Nikandros is a Kynigos, a beast-slayer, a warrior well-versed in killing the Khthones that assail his homeland. A mighty sculpt by Jin Wei from the artwork by Dan Warren, Nikandros is a cracking miniature and a great addition to your Atalantes host!
|
Here's another amazing sculpt from Valentin Zak and the artwork by Des Hanley - Nerys, the rather angry Abades (Abbess) of the Brythoniaid! She joins Caedoc in her spiritual quest to bash the enemies of God in their face with her great big mace. There's a rhyme there somewhere...

Originally released in March, we decided to release them again as they're now painted (by the lovely Christian Hacon) and thus much more presentable! The Rhyfelwyr (pronounced "hru-VEL-wer"), meaning simply "warriors", are the backbone of the Brythoniaid's human strength and each Rhyfelwr is as able with sword and shield as he is with a bow. Sculpted by Yannick Hennebo from the artwork by Dan Warren, the Rhyfelwyr can be purchased in four different ways - a unit of five warriors with command, a unit of ten warriors with command, a unit of five warriors and a unit of ten warriors. The individual Rhyfelwyr are Alun, the Penrhyfelwr or champion; Aeron, the bannerman; Cefin, the herald; and Gafan, Iestyn, Aestoc and Efan, all warriors. For the pedants, note the difference between singular (Rhyfelwr) and plural (Rhyfelwyr)!

Another new host, this time for the Byzantii - featuring the awesome, nasty, horrible Demilegionarii or half-legionaries and the deadly Fiends - led by Nervor, a Demilegionarius Option. Sculpted by Yannick Hennebo from the artwork by Danny Cruz (Nervor and In III Judas) and Roberto Chaudon from the artwork by Stefan Kopinski (the Fiends), these guys pack a real punch for your Legion! Those that are painted are by Paul Whittaker.
|
Painted by Paul Whittaker and sculpted from the artwork of Danny Cruz by Yannick Hennebo, Quintus Crito is an Option, a lieutenant if you will, a secondary commander of a Century and often the unit's disciplinarian. Perfect for commanding your Legionarii!
|
We love these evil-looking so-and-so's! The Demilegionarii - half-man, half-demon - are on the path to a glorious, Fiendish future thanks to the attentions of the lords of Dis, for over time these once-men will become outright demons themselves - or die in the attempt. Sculpted by Yannick Hennebo from the artwork by Danny Cruz, and painted here by Paul Whittaker, the Demilegionarii can be purchased as a unit of eight warriors with command or individually. The individual Demilegionarii are the Decanus or champion, Judas, and four warriors - Martis, Nazarius, Terentius and Duilius.

Another superb load of skellington sculpts from Edgar Skomorowski and the artwork by Danny Cruz, the Betrayers of Ceafor Barrow are Wihtaxas, wihts with axes and lanterns, which slice up and blind their enemies respectively. One day we may even do a unit with axes and shields, and a banner and so forth. Watch this space. Anyway, the Wihtaxas can be purchased in four different ways - a unit of five warriors with command, a unit of ten warriors with command, a unit of five warriors and a unit of ten warriors. The individual Wihtaxas are Alfweald, the champion, and four warriors - Ealdred, Cenred, Wasere and Oscetyl.
|
Sculpted at the same time as the Wihtaxas - and based on the same framework - by Edgar Skomorowski and the artwork by Danny Cruz, here's some skellie bowmen! The Sinners of Chessell Barrow are Wihbogas, wihts with bows, ideal for shooting up the enemy from afar. Note that "boga" should be pronounced "bo-ye" not "bo-ga". Right? Right. As always, the Wihtbogas can be purchased in four different ways - a unit of five warriors with command, a unit of ten warriors with command, a unit of five warriors and a unit of ten warriors. The individual Wihtbogas are Ænna, the champion, and four warriors - Eglāf, Ceneric, Wassa and Octha.

Maximus is a Kerusker, a berserker from the tribes of the Kerus in deepest darkest Germania, invented by one of our wonderful customers, Maximilian Schüte. This means Maximilian is of course Maximus' Descendant, for Maximus bears Max's likeness thanks to the attentions of Danny Cruz (artwork) and Stéphane Simon (sculpt)!
|
Trytheorn is another ancestor, based upon the likeness of one of our customers, Tomas Johansson! Tomas gave us a very detailed brief on what he would like Trytheorn to look like and how he should be posed, for Tomas does indeed look like a viking in the present day - even to the point of modelling him for us in a photo with sword and axe! Sculpted by Juan Navarro Pérez from the artwork by Danny Cruz.
All of the releases above will be officially released on the 4th of November 2017, but you can order them right now!
Watch out for the December releases, which should be unveiled soon!
