Darklands and Other Models
Darklands and Other Models
As requested by my fellow kickstarter buddies, I provide you with the following pictures of the Darkland models that I commissioned Seb and Bohun to paint. I know that you all are among the relatively few in the world that can appreciate the beauty of a beautiful model sculpted by a master that has been painted beautifully by another master. The Seb and Bohun commissions continue, so I will post more Darklands models as their painting is completed.
For those that care to reply to this thread, I would be very curious to hear your opinions regarding two things: (1) which sculpt is your favorite, and (2) which paintjob is your favorite.
This is Arthyen-

Re: Darklands Models
Oh I love them all!!, but Bloodmaw is my favorite. Grey skin.. will have to think about that..
Re: Darklands Models
1. Bloodmaw! 2. Bloodmaw!
Re: Darklands Models
Thanks for posting those Ryan. You may guess that Vortun is my favorite. Outstanding! I know how hard he is to paint, check out my Trolls wip if you haven't yet. Shame we can't get wip of your stuff!

Re: Darklands Models
Bloodmaw is just awesome and certainly my favorite of all your painted mini's.
I would love to see a master paintjob on Hrudinn, when it comes in ofcourse

Re: Darklands Models
o.O, that's nice.
Re: Darklands Models
Blood-maw, both sculpt and paintjob. Vortun and Falx-Brute look awesome, too. But I have to say that it's hard to just go with one paintjob over another one. Each one got something that really shines for that figure, so it's very hard to decide. They all take my breath away.
Re: Darklands Models
As I noted above, I will continue to add pictures of the completed paint jobs to this thread. I would be curious to know whether any of you that posted your favorite models and paint jobs above might consider changing your choices in view of the newer model paint jobs that I subsequently post.
The newest paint job is Scar-Scath

Re: Darklands Models
Ryan, could you please add which painter has painted which model. Some of them are obvious, others not so. Cheers!

Re: Darklands Models
Sculpt: Bloodmaw
Paint job: Magaan
The sheer detail in Magaan's armor coupled with the striped tiger cloak is amazing.

Re: Darklands Models
Every time I see this particular Blood Maw, I am reminded of the beast from Quake 1, the kinda polar bear monstrosity that shot lightning. I just see that paint job and brain kicks in "Nail Gun". Such an awesome piece and brilliant paint job.
Re: Darklands Models
Never like Bloodmaw until I saw his job! Great paintjob, and it stands out for me like a beacon, even though they are all good. As for sculpt, I also like the first brute (Falx?), although it is converted a bit, isn't it? It certainly adds interest, and the pose is very dynamic.

Holy s***t that's awesome! I want one that looks like that

Re: Darklands Models
Holy shit that's focking awesome! The only thing that brings Krull down is the blood-spatter on the axe. It doesn't look right at all. So that is a big let down. But everything else is awesome. That commission must have cost you a smaller fortune?!
#1. Krull
#2. Blood-maw
Also, Bohun got a very unique style of painting, and for me I have to say it's the extreme highlighting that he does that "shines" like if capturing the sun. Bohun's style is quite easy to tell. Sometimes he overdoes it, though. It's incredible skillful painting, no doubt, just that it, in my view, sometimes becomes "too busy". But he is definately one of the most skillfull painters of today.

I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on that, grefven. I love the way the blood spatter looks. It brings a nice touch of detail to an otherwise flat and boring piece of the model.
Sorn, is it metallic paint, or did he just do an amazing job with NMM? If the former, it's a fantastic job of shading metallics (something I've always had problems with).
Re: Darklands Models
KRULL!
The transition of colour across the wings and horn... I will never have the time in my life to develop the skill...
Oh well, do what I can.
Blood-Maw still my favourite here, though Krull nearly does it.

The idea with the blood-spatter is of course very nice. But look at where it's placed. Only along the very edge of the axe itself. It just doesn't look right to me.
Re: Darklands Models
That looks amazing. Aside from the scarred skin what I'm most impressed with is the detail on the left arm bracer and elbow pad. Breathtaking.

Re: Darklands Models
Totally awesome. It's a mighty fine collection you've got there. Must have cost a smaller fortune.
Re: Darklands Models
Thank you, grefven and AndyP. So I take it no one has changed their opinion regarding which model they think is the best or has the best paint job in view of the Jotunn pics?
Re: Darklands Models
It's hard to say. They are all beautiful and awesome paintjobs. Krull, Blood-maw and Mjagnir are totally epic, and it's not fair to compare those with your smaller figures. But, for me personally, I'd still go with Krull.

I posted this a few months ago in the Dwarven Forge forums, but I figured I would post-it again here since I think some of you may not have seen it. Select the link below to see a spin of a battle between the Bloodmaw and a party of adventurers in a beautiful Dwarven Forge cavern. Feel free to use your finger or mouse cursor to rotate the image. The adventurers were painted by Alexi-Z (i.e., Natalya Melnik).

Ckarakk- The base is not done yet. It will be done once the rest of the Tarvax starter set is completed.

Re: Darklands Models
The painting is absolutely stunning, although I'm not sure what I think overall.. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
Re: Darklands Models
Looks absolutely great. It makes me wish I had picked these guys up in the KS. :/
Re: Darklands Models
Thanks, Funkychef, Andys and Grefven!
Re: Darklands Models
Out of interest, are the bases finished on the Ax Drunes? or are they going to be brought more inline with the champion shown earlier? I'm not saying they dont look finished, just that they look quite different
