Face your fears - Pauls Painting blog
Hi all
So I am going to actually take the plunge and start painting my darklands minis. I havent been painting for that long and I am quite frankly intimidated by these beautiful minis as I am more of a '3 colours and dip' kinda guy.

Re: Face your fears - Pauls Painting blog
What inspires you?
When you look at a fiend, what do you see?
Best thing to do is to take inspiration from the real world or existing art works. I used to spend a lot of time on Cool Mini or not or Putty and Paint trying to figure out how certain colours were achieved and why certain pallettes were used.
My fiends ended up in a very cold pallette, parlty because I'm biased that way but also I thought it suited them when I did my test piece. I figured what colours I wanted certain parts and then took it from there, ending up with a purple based white flesh colour I'm rather pleased with.

I like it! Think the pic has washed some of the colour out, so I get the feeling the photo doesn't do the skin justice - like the colour scheme though!

I like that you did the Boney ridge a different color than the skin, I don't think I've ever seen any infernii like that, it looks cool!

Re: Face your fears - Pauls Painting blog
Hi demyse!
Love the work you did! Always welcome for more painted minis for Darklands, since there's not a lot in internet...
I'll definitely get fiends for myself, so this would be a good inspiration for my fiends!
The orange skin, and the bone color for the horn looks good!
Would love to see other angles too : )
Maybe painting the next fiends hair with dark brown for differentiation? Also painting cloak or belt in wine red or dark violet for some contrast?
And as Alex said, the color has washed out a little.
So here's a little tip for the photo ; )
Black background will make the color more vivid.
In this case dark blue would do.
Because your fiend is painted in warm color, which is orange. Using blue for background which is a cold color would pop out the miniature which is painted by orange.
Cause warm color and cold color would make a strong contrast.
Hope this help : )

Very nice miniatures, I like the skin color, somehow it looks like boiled flesh, and keeping in mind the neighbourhood those guys call their home it seems to be a perfect fit - great paintjobs, thank you very much for sharing the pictures!
